KASE Index, the benchmark index of the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange, has experienced significant growth since the start of 2023 on July 12. The index has increased by 353.11 points, or 10.9%, reaching a level of 3,604.75 points.
During this period, the volume of transactions involving index shares amounted to $277mn. Notably, the common shares of KazMunayGas, the national oil and gas company of Kazakhstan, accounted for the largest trading volume, with a value of $221mn. This represented approximately 79.8% of the total trading volume of index shares.
In addition to the domestic market, KASE Global, a platform for the trading of securities of foreign companies, conducted transactions worth $20.7mn in the first half of 2023. This figure is 49.5% lower compared to the same period last year, representing a decrease of $20.5mn.
The average daily trading volume on the exchange was approximately $173,682, while the average number of daily deals reached 228. The average value of each transaction was $761.
Regarding specific stocks, Apple shares led the trading volume with 2,214 deals worth $2.5mn. Tesla shares followed closely with 4,242 deals worth $1.9mn, and Pfizer shares recorded 1,232 transactions worth $1.7mn.
Analyzing the composition of investors, individuals accounted for 55.1% of the market participation, while broker-dealer organizations represented 23.4%, and legal entities constituted 21.5%. Non-resident investors had a limited involvement of approximately 1.1%.
The significant growth of the KASE Index since the beginning of 2023 reflects a positive trend in the Kazakhstan stock market. The increase in the value of index shares and the notable trading volumes of key companies demonstrates investor confidence in the country's economic prospects.
