A major accident in the center of Shymkent has left nine thousand subscribers without gas, Tengrinews.kz. has reported.
According to KazTransGas Aimak JSC, currently, there is no gas supply in 60 high-rise buildings located near the city administration.
Approximately 20 other establishments, including cafes, grocery stores, and shopping centers, are also affected by the gas outage. Gas company officials stated that the accident was caused by a contractor who damaged an underground gas pipeline during excavation work. It was reported that the contractor did not coordinate with the gas company regarding the repair work.
"In the area near the city administration, a 200-millimeter medium-pressure gas pipeline was damaged. 9,183 subscribers are without gas supply. Our employees promptly arrived at the scene and localized the gas pipeline. The excavator that damaged the pipeline does not have a license plate. The deputy akim has instructed the construction management to find the contractor. The costs for the repair work and gas loss will be covered by KazTransGas Aimak JSC. Whether or not the contractor will be punished will be decided jointly by the akimat and the gas company," said Aibek Ergali, the First Deputy Head of the Shymkent branch of KazTransGas Aimak JSC.
The preliminary estimated damage by KazTransGas Aimak JSC is six million tenge. This is the first incident of mass gas outage in Shymkent this year. The gas leak has been localized by rescue teams. Gas supply to subscribers' apartments is expected to be restored by 6 PM tomorrow, according to gas company officials.
Last year, three rural districts in the Almaty region experienced a gas outage due to an accident on a main pipeline. Approximately five thousand residential homes in the villages of Tuzdybastau and Guldala were left without power as a result of a tree falling on the main gas pipeline in the Panfilovo settlement.
