The United States is working with Central Asian countries to help them overcome the consequences of anti-Russian sanctions and is ready to provide them with an alternative to relations with Moscow and Beijing. This statement was made on July 13, by Elizabeth Horst, the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, during hearings in the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, TASS has reported.
"They are asking for our support in the issue of sanctions, assistance in finding a way to resist the pressure from Russia and China, and requesting an alternative. We are actively engaging with them on the issue of sanctions, particularly with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, so that their own economies are not destroyed," the Elizabeth Horst explained.
Horst added that the United States now has an opportunity to strengthen ties with the Central Asian states. According to her, the message that Washington is sending to these countries "contains an alternative" to relations with both Russia and China. Moreover, the United States and Kazakhstan have "longstanding relationships in the energy sector," and as a result, Washington is working to reduce Astana's dependence on Moscow in this field.
