Turkmenistan is the leader among the countries supplying aviation kerosene to Georgia, the Union of Oil Products Importers of Georgia reports.
In the first half of 2023, 25.7 thousand tonnes were imported from Turkmenistan, which is 47.1% of total imports.
Azerbaijan follows with 12.5 thousand. In addition, aviation kerosene was supplied by Greece, Turkey and Malta. Import of this type of aviation fuel to Georgia in January-June 2023 increased by 0.5% compared to the same period of 2022 and amounted to 54.6 thousand tonnes, the information says.
Georgia is fully dependent on imports of oil products, the main supplier of which last year was Turkmenistan: 304,193 tonnes worth $191.8mn.
Local experts told Daryo that The Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation (GOGC) is discussing with Turkmenistan the simplification of procedures for transit of oil products and increasing their volumes, as well as prospects for Turkmen gas supplies to Georgia and Europe.
According to the company, the talks were held with the management of Turkmenistan's state commodity exchange and the state concern Turkmengaz.
