Turkmenistan's Ambassador to Kazakhstan Batyr Redzhepov has denied reports of a coup attempt in Ashgabat. The diplomat told Tengrinews.kz that the information about it that appeared previously was not true.
"This information is fake."
Rejepov noted that the situation in the country is calm, "the competent authorities will find out who provoked the appearance of inaccurate information and for what purpose."
The diplomat also added that recently, on 29 June, the country held major events to mark the inaugurating of the new city of Arkadag.
"Representatives of the government were present from Kazakhstan. Nothing like that happened at our place. Everything is calm, everything is in normal mode," Redzhepov stated.
Netherlands-based Turkmen News had previously circulated a report in its Telegram channel that an attempted armed coup in the Turkmen capital in June had been foiled by local security services.
The authors of the story have now said they have withdrawn it from publication pending clarification of all details.
