On July 10, a meeting took place between Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, Jamshed Urakov, Director of the Egyptian Entrepreneurs Association, Muhammad Youssef, and the Ambassador of Egypt to Uzbekistan, Amira Fahmi.
The following sectors were identified as priorities for both sides:
- Agriculture
- Textile industry
- Tourism sector
The meeting also discussed the organisation of a business forum to strengthen economic relations.
Muhammad Youssef proposed organising a visit of Uzbek jewellers to Egypt with the aim of developing Uzbekistan's jewellery industry and exchanging experiences. It is worth noting that earlier Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed jewellers and allowed the export of jewellery up to $10,000.
On February, Daryo reported that Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Egypt, Mansurbek Kilichev, stated in an interview with the SEE agency that Egypt and Uzbekistan are enhancing their trade relations and jointly exploring the most efficient routes. In light of this, the construction of the "Termez - Mazar E-Sharif - Kabul - Peshawar" Trans-Afghan railway will facilitate convenient access for Central Asian countries to Egypt via Pakistani ports.
It is reported that the Republic of Egypt was among the early nations to acknowledge the sovereignty of the Republic of Uzbekistan on December 26, 1991. Diplomatic ties were formally established on January 23, 1992. The Egyptian embassy in Tashkent, the capital city, was inaugurated in May 1993. Likewise, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Egypt commenced its operations in December 1994.
