An Afghan company is set to invest $50 mn in the construction of three docks at the Enzeli port in Iran's Caspian Sea, according to a joint venture agreement signed by the companies on July 9th, Sputnik Afghanistan.
The agreement states that the foreign investor will sign a contract for the investment in the Caspian port (Enzeli) within the next three months, following a memorandum of understanding signed with a local Iranian company. The acting head of the Enzeli Free Zone made the announcement during the signing ceremony, highlighting the importance of foreign investment in the region.
The memorandum of understanding was signed in the presence of the Secretary of Iran's Supreme Council of Free and Special Economic Zones, who encouraged both Iranian and foreign investors to explore investment opportunities in the free zones. The attraction of foreign investments and the determination of incentive packages for direct foreign investments, in collaboration with Iranian partners, are key strategies for the development of the free zones, emphasized the Secretary.
Earlier reports indicated that Afghan businesses had shown interest in the Iranian Special Economic Zone (SEZ) "Aras," located on the border with Armenia and Azerbaijan. Tehran has proposed the establishment of a joint SEZ on the Iran-Afghanistan border.
