A foreign national who was planning a terrorist attack on Azerbaijan's soil has been apprehended. The State Security Service of Azerbaijan is actively taking operational and investigative actions to counteract any terrorist, provocative, or intelligence-subverting activities that threaten Azerbaijan's national security and state interests, media reports.
During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Fawzan Musa Khan, a citizen of Afghanistan, conspired with other individuals to destabilize public order and sow panic among the population. He planned to carry out a terrorist attack that would result in an explosion, fire, or other destructive events, leading to loss of life, bodily harm, and significant financial damage. Khan traveled to Azerbaijan with the intention of carrying out these heinous crimes while in Baku. He surveyed the embassy of a foreign state to determine its coordinates and made contact with other individuals to help him carry out the attack and provide financial support for the purchase of weapons and explosives.
Fawzan Musa Khan was apprehended at the scene of the crime, and a criminal case has been opened against him. He faces charges under articles 28, 214.2.1, and 28, 214.2.3 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, which pertain to preparation for the commission of terrorist acts using firearms and weapons by a group of persons. The court has decided to detain him as a preventive measure.
Reportedly, law enforcement agencies are conducting a comprehensive investigation to identify all the individuals involved in the planned terrorist act in Azerbaijan.
