On the night of July 5, Russia launched a missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Lviv. At least four people have been killed, while another 32, including a child, have been injured, Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) informs.
MIA reports that a missile hit a multi-story residential building, causing destruction to the third and fourth floors in two entrances. Rescuers are continuing to search for individuals who may be trapped under the debris.
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi stated that the missile strike last night was one of the most significant attacks on Lviv since the beginning of the conflict.
"There is extensive damage: over 50 residential units destroyed, roofs blown off entire residential buildings, damage to office complexes, schools, and dormitories of Lviv Polytechnic. It appears that hundreds of residents will require our support as windows have been shattered," he added.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that the strike was carried out by "Caliber" cruise missiles launched from the Black Sea's waters, from both surface vessels and submarines.
"Several groups of missiles were detected, initially flying in a northern direction, utilising the terrain and the Dnieper River's course, and then abruptly changing course to the west," the statement from the Ukrainian Air Force said.
Seven out of ten "Caliber" cruise missiles were successfully destroyed, while the remaining three hit civilian targets in the city of Lviv, as mentioned in the statement.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed condolences to the families of those killed and released drone footage showing the extent of the destruction.
