Recent news has unveiled plans for developing a ‘Tourist Belt’ spanning over a distance of 20 kilometers in Tashkent's Shaykhontohur district, with an anticipated completion date of late 2023.
The project entails the construction of well-designed pedestrian and cycling paths, verdant green spaces, artisanal centers, themed squares, and gastronomic, tourist, and entertainment streets that operate around the clock. Reportedly, the initiative has been allocated a budget of UZS 100bn (nearly $8.7mn).
The Cabinet of Ministers has also been charged with enhancing the dekhkan markets ‘Chorsu’ and ‘Eski Juva’ under this initiative. This will involve the installation of modern trading facilities, multi-level parking, constructing of walkways, upgrading irrigation networks, and renovating vacant structures and buildings.
The Tashkent city administration has been entrusted with reconstructing the Uzbek State Circus building through a public-private partnership, with an expected completion date of late 2024.
Other upcoming projects include the development of eight new hotels designed in the Old Town style, a pedestrian bridge, symbolic gates, Wi-Fi, selfie zones, and a contemporary blacksmithing center to showcase traditional skills.
The city administration of Tashkent has initiated a model project wherein business entities can take part in electronic tenders to acquire land areas for the renovation of smithy workshops.
