Researchers from the State Research University in Virginia, USA, have suggested that the map of the Earth may undergo changes due to frequent and severe weather events, such as temperature rises, droughts, floods, and storms.
Science Alert reports on the study, which predicts that gradual changes in climate could alter local conditions and result in the remapping of the Earth by the year 2100. The experts warn that if effective measures are not taken to reduce harmful emissions, global warming will continue to accelerate, jeopardizing food production and causing mosquito-borne diseases to affect a majority of the world's population.
The melting of ice caps in the polar regions also contributes to rising ocean levels, which further reduces the world's uninhabitable land area.
