The Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, has underlined the significance of executing the memoranda of understanding (MoUs) that Iran signed with Uzbekistan in September, media reports.
In particular, Ebrahim Raisi, on May 6, spoke with Nurdinjon Ismoilov, the speaker of Uzbekistan's parliament, and emphasized that the MoUs were essential in expanding economic ties between the two nations.
The President of Iran also acknowledged that political and economic relations between Iran and Uzbekistan had significantly transformed over the past year. According to the head of state, further efforts were required to strengthen their economic and commercial ties, utilizing the existing capacities in both countries.
In September last year, Ebrahim Raisi visited Uzbekistan's historic city of Samarkand to partake in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. As a result, the two countries' authorities inked 18 documents covering several cooperation areas.
The President highlighted the essential role of the two parliaments in advancing cooperation between the two nations. Nurdinjon Ismoilov praised Raisi's foreign policy to prioritize enhancing relations with Iran's neighbors and noted that Uzbekistan greatly emphasized developing ties with its neighbors in its new constitution. Ismoilov also held talks with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, to explore ways of strengthening relations between the two countries earlier in the day.
