Uzbekistan's Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee has urged residents of the republic not to delay seeking medical assistance from family polyclinics, as cases of measles have been reported in Central Asia.
According to recent data, Uzbekistan has diagnosed 37 cases of measles since the beginning of 2023. To prevent a complex epidemic, a mass vaccination campaign was carried out for children aged six months to 5 years, with over 98% vaccinated children, media reports.
While this is encouraging news, the global situation regarding measles is alarming. More than 40mn girls worldwide missed their scheduled measles vaccination in 2021, and neighboring countries have reported a much more difficult situation.
The WHO emphasizes that countries must remain vigilant and closely monitor the disease to prevent outbreaks.
