Uzbekistan's Ministry of Health has recently released a statement regarding the emergence of measles in Central Asia, media reports. The governmental department earlier reported a significant increase in measles cases worldwide.
Authorities have attributed the outbreak to the pandemic, as strict quarantine measures and overcrowding in medical facilities have resulted in millions of children missing their scheduled immunizations against infectious diseases.
In 2021, 40mn girls worldwide could not receive routine measles prevention vaccinations. Of these, 25mn children missed out on their first dose, and 14.7mn missed the second dose, setting a new record.
Uzbekistan's citizens are advised not to postpone consultations with doctors in family clinics.
