The Specialized Inter-district Court for Criminal Cases of the city of Astana sentenced the former chairman of the National Security Committee (NSC) of Kazakhstan, Karim Masimov, to 18 years in prison, press service of the court reports.
Massimov was found guilty of high treason, forcible seizure of power, and abuse of power on April 24.
“By partial addition of punishments, the final sentence was imposed - 18 years in prison with confiscation of property, with life deprivation of the right to hold positions in the civil service,” the court said in a statement.
