    Chinese company set to establish genetic center in Syrdarya

    A center specializing in identifying and diagnosing genetic diseases in children will be established in the Syrdarya region, "Yuz.uz" reports.

    The Genetics Center is planned to be launched within the framework of the Uzbekistan-China joint project and will allow conducting of 48 types of screening tests on 5,000 babies per year, to detect and treat congenital and hereditary diseases at an early stage.

    "We have established cooperative relations based on innovative projects with the BGl Genomies company, which has its reputation for identifying and diagnosing genetic diseases in children in China and in many countries of the world. The new project we are presenting to Syrdarya is designed to identify and diagnose genetic diseases that cause disability, and will allow to significantly reduce the number of children who become disabled due to genetic diseases," said the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation Shahlo Turdikulova.

    Ms. Jun Cheng, the representative of the Chinese company BGl Genomies in CIS countries visited the region and "Mother and Child" screening center in the system of the Syrdarya Regional Health Department of Higher Education.

    The representative was presented with a current overview of genetics field development in the region and exchanged views with the representatives of the local health department regarding the issue of the establishment of a new center.
