Uzbekistan has an average sugar consumption rate compared to other countries around the world, Landgeist reports.
While Europe and North America have the highest sugar consumption rates, some countries in Asia and the Middle East are also known for their high sugar intake. Bahrain has the highest rate in Asia with 44.3kg of sugar consumed per capita per year, followed by Lebanon with 43.4kg, and Malaysia with 41.6kg.
On the other hand, Myanmar, North Korea, and Bangladesh have the lowest sugar consumption rates at 2.9kg, 4.5kg, and 6.3kg per capita per year, respectively. Uzbekistan's sugar consumption rate is 17.8kg per capita per year, which is similar to Turkmenistan (18.7kg), Tajikistan (16.8kg), and Japan (17.2kg).
To continuously supply the domestic market with sugar products, local producers in Uzbekistan are modernizing their production capacities. They plan to increase sugar production by 25% compared to the previous year, with a target of producing up to 2,500 tons of sugar per day until May 1. The annual sugar production is expected to increase from 600,000 tons to 1mn tons.
The government has also taken necessary measures to ensure the availability of sugar and flour products to the population at reasonable prices. Retail prices of sugar range from $1,01 to $1,23, while in some remote areas, prices can go up to $1,05-$1,31.
