Amina Mohammad, the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, indicated that Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, will be meeting with special representatives of the UN in Afghanistan in two weeks, "Daryo" correspondent in Afghanistan reports.
She underlined the necessity of dealing with the Taliban at the meeting at Princeton University in the United States, suggesting that acknowledging the group could hold its members more responsible. She also indicated that the Taliban are asking for legitimacy globally and that the planned conference will be the UN Secretary-General's very first encounter with delegates from Afghanistan-related nations.
Amina Mohammad stated that failure to engage with the Taliban will result in poor judgments and destabilization in Afghanistan. However, the UN representative's remarks elicited harsh responses in Afghanistan.
On April 18, the United Nations issued a warning that they will leave if Taliban would not allow female workers to continue their career pursuits at the organization.
