Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida delivered a speech in Wakayama City on April 15 in support of the Liberal Democratic Party politician, a candidate for prefectural governor. During the event, an explosive device detonated one meter away, according to CNN.
The politician was not injured and was evacuated from the scene, but one policeman who was at the scene was injured. An explosive device dropped near Kishida went off a few seconds later.
The assailant was caught by a local fisherman and was quickly intercepted by the police.
According to the detainee's neighbors (the attacker lived in Hyogo Prefecture), he appeared quiet and calm.
Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe gave a speech on July 8, 2022 in support of the same party as Fumio Kishida in the city of Nara. Tetsuya Yamagami, 42, a former sailor of the Japan Self-Defense Forces, shot him twice, Abe was wounded in the chest and neck and died during hospitalization.
