In the spring of 2022, the fresh carrots appeared on March 20, and in 2021, from the middle of March.
However, this year the Uzbek markets haven’t seen large batches of the new harvest, which means the carotene colour veggie will probably enter the market much later.
Meanwhile, the price of last year's harvested carrots is rising for the third week in a row. During this period, wholesale prices increased by 1.5 times and reached a record level.
According to EastFruit's price monitoring, from March 17 to April 7, 2023, the average wholesale price of last year's carrots in Uzbekistan increased from 4,000 to 6,000 soums per 1 kg (+50%).
In the last few years, the previous absolute record in wholesale prices of last year's harvested carrots was recorded at the end of the first ten days of June 2021, when the average wholesale price of this product was 5,200 soums per 1 kg which could be attributed to the price speculations in the Russian market - the main importer of Uzbek carrot.
According to preliminary statistics, the volume of carrot export from Uzbekistan from mid-March to the end of the first ten days of April 2023 was 3.3 thousand tons, which is 2.6 times more than in the same period last year, and almost 3 times more in the same period of 2021.
In addition, the severe cold that hit hard recently Uzbekistan caused a delay in the harvest of carrots as well as several other agricultural products.
