The Prosecutor General's Office of Uzbekistan discussed the draft decision of the Cabinet of Ministers over existing loopholes in the legislative documents related to the fishing limits and protection of fish resources in natural water bodies.
Due to problems regulating the destruction of prohibited fishing equipment, the poachers shamelessly continue their illegal activity. Also, the country does not have procedures for calculating the payment amount for industrial fishing from natural water bodies and damages caused by illegal fishing.
In this regard, the new rules for fishing in natural water bodies of Uzbekistan will be approved, and the decision is expected to be implemented from July 1, 2023, which will determine the following:
- The procedure for recreational, sports, and industrial fishing in natural water bodies;
- Sizes and amount of fees for catching fish, requirements for special marking of nets, and the procedure for keeping records of industrial fishing;
- Control over the use of fish resources, the procedure for calculating damages caused by illegal fishing;
- The procedure for solving the issues of destruction of prohibited fishing weapons and tools.
