Acting Mayor of Tashkent Shavkat Umirzakov has said that the restoration of the city's drainage system is currently under discussion, as well as the issue of bringing to justice those who violated the law, media reports.
'I studied the drainage system. First, let's blame ourselves; the citizens themselves blocked 20-30 percent of the drains during the construction of houses. We have studied and identified these aspects. How will we restore this system now, and what action will be taken against those who have violated the law? This is state property. Why did it flood?', media quotes Shavkat Umirzakov.
The capital's governor believes the floods occurred because residents built houses without respecting the construction culture.
'Our people must build with respect for the construction culture; we do not need to block out what passes under the ground. In this question, we will establish and report the number of entrepreneurs and ordinary residents', the Acting City Mayor of Tashkent said.
