The price of greenhouse tomatoes in Uzbekistan continues to break new records, EastFruit reports.
The average wholesale price of red tomatoes increased by 29% in the last week. Current wholesale prices are almost 2 times higher than last year.
"In addition, as a result of a sharp increase in the prices of these products in the last week, the current wholesale prices of red tomatoes in Uzbekistan have become the highest in the EastFruit region," - project analysts say.
According to EastFruit price monitoring, from March 17 to March 24, 2023, the average wholesale price of red greenhouse tomatoes in Uzbekistan increased from $2.45 to $3.16/kg, i.e. by 28.6%.
Taking into account the rapid growth of the prices of these products in the last three months, from the beginning of this year to March 24, the wholesale prices of red tomatoes in Uzbekistan increased by 2.4 times.
As of March 24, 2023, the average wholesale price of red greenhouse tomatoes in Uzbekistan was 1.8 times higher than the same date last year and 2.4 times higher than the same date of 2020-2021.
As a result of the sharp increase in the prices of red tomatoes last week, the wholesale prices of these products in Uzbekistan turned out to be the highest among the countries where EastFruit weekly monitors fruits and vegetables.
As of March 24, 2023, the average wholesale price of red greenhouse tomatoes in the countries of the region (per 1 kg):
- Uzbekistan - $3.16;
- Poland - $2.79;
- Ukraine - $2.60;
- Tajikistan - $2.29;
- Moldova - $1.61;
- Georgia - $1.16.
The price of pink tomatoes also rose last week, but the rate of increase was much lower than that of red tomatoes.
From March 17 to March 24, 2023, the average wholesale price of pink tomatoes in Uzbekistan increased from $2.89 to $3.15/kg, i.e. by 9.1%.
Taking into account the steady increase in the prices of these products over the past month and a half, from February 10 to March 24, 2023, the average wholesale price of pink greenhouse tomatoes in Uzbekistan increased by 1.8 times.
As of March 24, 2023, the average wholesale price of these products was 1.8 times higher than the same date last year, and 2.1 times higher than the same date in 2021.
