Social media platforms are teeming with news about the list of 359 cities where earthquakes of magnitude 6 to 9 can be observed in Uzbekistan. This list is posted on the FVV website.
The message reads that there are two types of news that are being published: one is that an earthquake of this magnitude will occur in the next few days, and the other is that it may happen sometime.
Ekin Abdulahatov, the author of the channel of hydrometeorological scientific analysis, writes that this list was compiled based on the seismic zoning map of Uzbekistan and means that there is a possibility of an earthquake of this magnitude. Maybe in 20, maybe 100 or 1000 years.
The list includes a total of 359 settlements. Despite the fact that some areas are located in areas close to 9-point seismically active areas, based on deep scientific studies, they were included among the 6-point areas. "This must be explained by the geomorphological condition and geological structure of the place," the expert says.
Abdulahatov asked not to panic as the news causes confusion among people.
"The seismic zoning map of Uzbekistan has been drawn up for a long time and is used by real estate developers. And they take these points into account while building houses," Abdulahatov continued.
Upon rumours which went viral about a series of earthquakes which may engulf Uzbekistan in the near future, the Ministry of Emergencies stated that today there is no technology in any country in the world that can predict the date and even the approximate time of an earthquake and that due to the fact that Uzbekistan is located in a seismically active zone, earthquakes sometimes happen.
