The Taliban has banned male tailors to make clothes for women in Afghanistan. Tolo News reports.
The new rule has sparked widespread condemnation among the affected tailors. Local sources reported that most of the women-only tailors have closed their shops. The representatives of the tailors' union said the restrictions have led to job cuts and forced some tailors to leave the country. In this case, Parvan region suffered the most, tailors opposed the restrictions.
"They are permitted to make clothes and there is no barrier in the field for them, but when they take the size of women who personally come to them, that is forbidden by the department of virtue and vice,” said Hikmatullah Shamim, the spokesman of the governor of Parwan.
Earlier, the "Taliban" movement ordered men working in public and private hospitals and other health centres in Afghanistan's Balkh province not to serve female patients, and female doctors not to serve male patients. Women are also prohibited from buying SIM cards and visiting amusement parks. The European Union condemned the Taliban's new restrictions on women.
