German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is replacing Bundeswehr(General Inspector) Eberhard Zorn, Spiegel reports. Major General Carsten Breuer has been named as the new head of Germany's armed forces.
AFP news reported that Zorn's resignation will take place on Thursday. Zorn has been criticized for misanalyzing the military capabilities of Russia and Ukraine. In September 2022, he gave an interview, where he said that Ukraine would not be able to respond to attacks by Russian forces.
He also noted that the Russian army can open a second front in Moldova, near Kaliningrad, the Finnish border, or in Georgia, a statement that was called "stunningly poor" by General Ben Hodges of the US Army Europe.
The 59-year-old Carsten Breyer, soon to become Bundeswehr, headed the government's commission to combat the coronavirus pandemic from November 2021 to May 2022.
