Bishkek has launched the construction of a new two-story mosque designed for 20,000 people. The project worth $51mn is being implemented with foreign investment.
Reportedly, the Kyrgyz Republic is home to 2,900 Islamic organizations, including 2,669 mosques and 125 madrasas.
According to Kyrgyz political scientist Arsen Usenov, 'based on the number of mosques per capita, Kyrgyzstan is today the most religious country in Central Asia, where the level of penetration of religious funds and centers financed by foreign sponsors is also high'.
