February 27. At the trial in the second criminal case on the Nukus unrest (July 1-2, 2022), the state prosecutor has requested from 5 to 12 years of imprisonment for 39 defendants, Gazeta.uz cites.
The trial which has been chaired by the judge of the Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Court of Karakalpakstan Dauletbay Razov, has gathered the suspects who are charged under part 3 of Article 244 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (organization of riots accompanied by violence against a person, pogroms, arson, damage or destruction of property, resistance to a representative of the authorities with the use or threat of use of weapons or other items used as weapons).
The seven defendants, in addition to part 3 of article 244, were charged with paragraphs “a” and “d” of part 3 of article 244-1 of the Criminal Code (Production, storage, distribution or demonstration of materials containing a threat to public safety and public order, by prior agreement or by a group of persons; using the media or telecommunications networks, as well as the Internet).
Seven more, in addition to part 3 of article 244, are charged with paragraph "a" of part 3 of article 104 (intentional grievous bodily harm caused to two or more persons).
The four defendants, except for part 3 of article 244 and paragraph "a" of part 3 of article 104 of the Criminal Code, were charged under paragraph "a" of part 3 of article 247 of the Criminal Code (illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, main parts of firearms, explosives, explosives or explosive devices by robbery).
The prosecution asked 37 defendants in the second case about the events in Nukus for long-term terms (5 to 12 years in prison).
One of the lawyers said that all the charges demanded by the prosecutor's office have remained unchanged, despite the refuting facts of the defence.
