The plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly on February 24 unanimously adopted the resolution on Terms of Reference, modalities, format, and organization of the High-level Meeting on Tuberculosis Control, Dunyo reports.
The Permanent Representatives of Uzbekistan and Poland to the United Nations coordinated inter-State negotiations on the text of the resolution.
The resolution decides to hold a High-level Meeting on Tuberculosis in New York within the framework of the General Debate of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 78) that will open on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
The overall theme of the upcoming high-level meeting will focus on science, finance, and innovation, as well as their advantages, for the rapid elimination of the global tuberculosis epidemic and measures aimed at ensuring equal access to prevention, testing, treatment, and care services.
The High-level Meeting on Tuberculosis will result in adopting a Political Declaration containing specific targets for accelerating the elimination of the global tuberculosis epidemic by 2030.
Uzbekistan and Poland will coordinate inter-state negotiations to develop and agree on the text of the political document.
Overall, as part of the preparatory process for the New York meeting, the permanent missions of Uzbekistan and Poland to the United Nations, together with the World Health Organization and other United Nations entities, will organize numerous events to raise global awareness about tuberculosis and mobilize Global efforts to accelerate the eradication of tuberculosis.
