After the strong earthquake in Turkey that destroyed thousands of buildings, the Uzbek public has some mistrust towards Turkish construction workers. The deputy director of the Institute of Seismology, Vahidkhan Ismailov, told "Daryo" in an interview that it was a wrong perception.
"There will certainly be victims after an earthquake. At the press conference yesterday, one of the journalists asked why Uzbekistan allows Turkish construction companies to build. In fact, they are among the top in the world. The main issue is the adaptation of the construction projects they bring to the construction standards of Uzbekistan. If it is not suitable, then the projects should not be implemented.
A typical example is the 26-story building of "Milliy Bank" in Tashkent city, Yunusabad district, built by the Turkish firm "Aysel". The building project belongs to the same company. When the construction of the building started, we stopped. Because the construction project did not meet our standards. Eventually, they had to adapt. Construction has been stalled for a long time. Because the project needs to be changed. When the project changed, there was a conflict with the National Bank. In the end, experts were brought in from Japan and they found our objections valid. Then Aysel accepted to erect according to the construction standards of Uzbekistan and tweaked the project. At that time, their goal was to lower the foundation to 9 meters and raise the building. We said it should be lowered to 32 meters. Then, based on our requirements, the building was solidly built," the scientist said.
According to Vahidkhan Ismailov, now all social facilities in Uzbekistan have earthquake-resistant passports.
