The North Sokh underground gas storage facility can be restarted after a long-time closure. Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this at a meeting held in Andijan on February 1, UzA reports.
"Unfortunately, the underground gas storage facility in Sokh was closed due to some reasons. During the state visit to Kyrgyzstan, we also agreed on this issue with Sadir Japarov. The Energy ministers will meet to resolve the technical aspects of the agreement," the president said.
"The volume of the North Sokh underground gas storage facility is approximately 2.5-3 billion cubic meters. 1.3 billion cubic meters of gas can be used, and the rest is in the buffer zone. This means that we will be able to supply the Fergana valley with 13 million cubic meters of gas every day during the winter season," Energy Minister Jorabek Mirzamahmudov said in an interview with UzA.
He noted that the main gas storage part of this facility is located in the territory of Kyrgyzstan, and the compressors are located in the territory of Uzbekistan. For this reason, negotiations are conducted on the general use of the facility.
"First of all, the working group will study all technical and economic aspects in detail. Because the building has not been used for many years, we need to thoroughly study its current condition," Mirzamahmudov explained.
