Uzbekistan Airways announced that it had signed an agreement with Airbus to buy eight A320neo and 4 A321neo aircraft to replenish its existing fleet of 17 Airbus A320 family aircraft.
The new planes have an Airbus Airspace cabin, which provides passengers with the highest level of comfort in the air transport market. Uzbekistan Airways plans to use the new aircraft to expand its route network further.
"The contract signed with Airbus is a new step in our strategy to modernize the airline fleet and will allow us to continue offering passengers the most modern and comfortable service. At the same time, the new aeroplanes will help us further improve our position in the Central Asian region and significantly expand the map of flights both within and outside the region," the chairman of Uzbekistan Airways said.
"Our cooperation with Uzbekistan Airways began in 1993. It is a great honour for the airline to offer the A320neo family aircraft. We are observing how the air transportation market is developing in the Central Asian region. Modern and efficient aircraft of the A320neo family will allow Uzbekistan Airways to benefit from this growth and take one of the leading roles in the region," Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer of Airbus noted.
The A320neo family includes the latest technologies, such as Sharklets, next-generation engines that ensure fuel efficiency of at least 20 percent of CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions. With more than 8,600 orders from more than 130 customers, the A320neo family is the most popular aircraft in the world.
