The "Uzhydromet" experts say that have been many cold seasons before in the history of meteorological observations of Uzbekistan.
In particular, the winter of 1968-1969 was the coldest. Absolute records of minimum air temperature were recorded in many regions of the republic this winter.
The lowest airdrop was recorded in 1972 and 1977 when the thermometer showed -33 to -36C degrees in the Navoi region and -38 to -40C degrees in the Ustyurt plateau.
The longest and coldest season in the last 50 years happened in 2007-2008 spanning throughout all 3 winter months. The temperature fell sharply to -17 to -22C degrees, in some places it is cold from -24 to -26C degrees, in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and desert regions the temperature to 30 to -33C degrees.
In the winter of 1969 in the city of Tashkent, the thermometer froze at -23.1C degrees, while the absolute record of minimum air temperature was -29.5 degrees in December 1930.
In all the above-mentioned chronicles, an increase in the duration of snowfall was observed along with the arrival of the cold winter season. As a result, in these years, the long-term preservation of low temperatures in the plains caused the accumulation of snow cover without allowing the snow to melt completely. In particular, in the northern (Republic of Karakalpakstan, Khorezm region) and southern, southwestern (Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Bukhara, Navoi regions) regions of the republic, the height of the snow cover is 15-25 centimetres, in the central (Samarkand, Jizzakh, Syrdarya, Tashkent regions) ) and in the eastern regions (Andijan, Namangan and Fergana regions) it was 30-65 centimetres.
The maximum height of the snow cover in Tashkent was 54 centimetres observed in 1969. In January of this year, the snow height was 26 centimetres.
"We note that the cold days that continue in the country today are not the strongest cold in the history of hydrometeorological observations. The cold temperature observed on the night of January 12 to January 13 of this year was the peak of the cold air currents that entered our country under the influence of an anticyclone," the report said.
