On January 12, Turkmenistan stopped the export of natural gas to Uzbekistan through the "Daryoliq" station.
"Gazeta.uz" reported that on that day, a telephone message was received from the state concern "Turkmangaz" about the problems at its gas production units and the suspension of gas supply through "Daryoliq". According to information received from various sources, the reason for the gas supply interruption was the formation of hydrate in the communications inside the Galkanish gas condensate field. Experts explained that this happens in severe cold temperatures and emergency situations.
In addition to the suspension of gas supplies to Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan was forced to significantly reduce the supply of natural gas to the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline due to the problems. Specialists in the two countries are working on eliminating technical problems. The supply of gas from Turkmenistan is expected to be restored soon, sources inform.
In December, for the first time, Uzbekistan concluded a contract with Turkmenistan for the short-term supply of gas directly without the participation of a third party. The Turkmen side announced that it is determined to deepen cooperation with Uzbekistan in the field of long-term, direct gas supply. It is said that on January 14, the head of the presidential administration, Sardar Umurzakov, went to Ashgabat for negotiations.
