The new Omicron strain XBB.1.5 dubbed Kraken has not been detected in Uzbekistan, according to Maftuna Saidova, head of the information service for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health.
The new Omicron variant is considered 140% more contagious than other strains. It doesn’t differ enough from other Omicron strains to warrant its own Greek letter, World Health Organization (WHO) officials said Wednesday (January 11).
A new COVID variant that was first detected in October last year has now been identified in at least 29 countries, according to the WHO.
