Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov has explained the discrepancy in gas export data presented by statistical agencies of Uzbekistan and China.
Earlier Uzbekistan’s state statistics committee reported that Uzbekistan exported $39.6mn worth of gas in November, while the Chinese statistics agency informed that the volume of gas supplied by the Central Asian country the same month reached $114.2mn.
According to the head of the governmental department, the discrepancy is explained by ‘differences in statistics management’.
‘In our statistics, only the volume of exported gas and its amount are taken into account. On the Chinese side, goods, products, and services imported from Uzbekistan are generally considered. As you know, the gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China passes through the territory of Uzbekistan, and the transit of gas through our territory is carried out by the joint venture entitled Asia Trans Gas. In addition to the gas exported from Uzbekistan, there is a transit cost for gas transported through the territory of Uzbekistan. When summing these two indicators we get a number, which provides statistics of China’, the Minister said.
According to the media, the State Committee on Statistics of Uzbekistan stated that the data published are preliminary.
