December 2. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Vladimir Norov, called on the OSCE to take an active part in mitigating the consequences of the ecological disaster of the Aral Sea and implementing relevant socio-economic projects and programs in the Aral Sea basin.
The foreign minister noted that today a completely new environment based on mutual trust has been formed in the Central Asian region: many obstacles have been removed, conditions have been created for the free movement of people, and the scaling up volume of foreign trade.
At the fourth consultative meeting of the Heads of State held in the Kyrgyz Republic in July of this year, a historic cooperation agreement was reached for the development of Central Asia in the 21st century.
Norov said that environmental problems in Central Asia are still problematic accelerating climate change in the region.
