Economist Intelligence Unit has presented a new annual study on the cost of living in the world. It compares prices for 200 products and services in more than 170 cities around the globe. In the Worldwide Cost of Living 2022 report, Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent listed as 168th among the globe’s most expensive cities. Last year, the republic's largest and most populous city was ranked 171.
According to the study, the average cost of living in the world’s largest cities has increased by 8.1% in local currency terms over the past year. The rating data was influenced by the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and the coronavirus pandemic. Besides, the costs of gas and electricity rose on average by 29%. The authors of the report have included the rising prices of food and household goods.
The Worldwide Cost of Living is a twice-yearly survey that compares over 400 individual prices across over 200 products and services in 172 cities (173 last year, when Ukraine's capital Kyiv was included).
