Established in 2019, the Space Research and Technology Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan is designed to implement state programs to boost the space industry of the Central Asian country. Several measures were taken to establish a legal framework and the necessary infrastructure.
In 2020, the total space services market worldwide approached $400bn. The demand for space services will only grow in the future. With this in mind, a five-year concept and a ‘roadmap’ for the development of the space industry were developed. It defines the objectives for remote sensing of the Earth, creating a national constellation of telecommunications satellites, establishing a research and production center, and training and support for aerospace start-ups.
The Space Research and Technology Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers will be assigned to detect violations in the economic sphere by analyzing space images and implementing state space monitoring. Besides, the agency will prepare proposals for using advanced technologies.
It was stressed that the development of the industry would help a wide range of areas, including agriculture and water management, land relations, ecology, and geology.
Thus, the level of accuracy in the analysis of crop types and areas, unauthorized occupation of land, and unauthorized organization of landfills will reach 95%. Protecting hydraulic structures, subsoil, and minerals would also be strengthened.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has approved the proposals and ordered the adoption of the relevant documents.
