Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjayev held a meeting with Mohammad Abunayyan, Board Chairman of the Saudi company ACWA Power to discuss current joint projects and measures to expand cooperation in the development of renewable energy sources.
The two sides reflected on the implementation of the project for the construction of a combined cycle thermal power plant with a capacity of 1,500 MW based on the Syrdarya TPP, as well as the preparations for the construction of two wind power plants with a total of 500 MW each in the Bukhara region. It was agreed to run all projects shortly.
Besides, the parties discussed ways to expand investment cooperation. They exchanged views on the possibility of constructing wind farms with a capacity of up to 1.5 GW in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
The projects which comply with the Uzbek government’s program to diversify the country’s energy balance are aimed at bringing the volume of electricity generated by wind farms to 3 GW by 2030 and reducing carbon emissions by 1.6mn tons per year, thereby contributing to the goal of converting 40% of Uzbekistan's energy capacity to renewable energy sources by 2031.
