The National Library of Uzbekistan, named after Alisher Navoi, held the opening ceremony of the reading room titled 'Window to China.' The Chinese envoy to Uzbekistan, Jiang Yan, highlighted the importance of collaboration between the libraries in the two countries to deepen bilateral ties between the people by expanding their knowledge of the two nations' cultures, histories, and lifestyles.
The Chinese Embassy provided the library with technical assistance in creating a reading room and handed over 260 books and DVDs about China.
The Ambassador recalled that in mid-September Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Uzbekistan on a state visit and held talks with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. ‘The Embassy is ready to work intensively with Uzbek friends to implement the agreements of our leaders,’ added the head of the Chinese diplomatic mission in Tashkent.
The head of the library, Umida Teshabova, pointed out that Chinese is one of the United Nations' primary languages, making it increasingly in demand worldwide, including in Uzbekistan. ‘This project further develops and strengthens friendship between the Uzbek and Chinese peoples. Our reading room will become the most modern center of knowledge of the ancient, rich spiritual culture of China, as well as the study of Chinese people's history, traditions, customs, and language,’ she stressed.
The National Library of Uzbekistan was founded in 1870. At present, it has over 6,000 resources in Chinese.
