The Russian consulate in Samarkand may be opened in 2023. Dmitry Danilov, the press secretary of the Russian Embassy in Uzbekistan, made an official announcement.
According to the press secretary of the diplomatic mission, Samarkand is not only the second largest city in the country, the largest tourist centre in the world but the centre of events for various international forums.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov also stated that Russia plans to open consulates in the Maldives, Bali in Indonesia, as well as Grodno in Belarus, Aktau in Kazakhstan and Samarkand in Uzbekistan.
