According to the information of the Ministry of Water Management of Uzbekistan, the level of water supply per capita in the whole world is on average 24,600 m3, and in Uzbekistan, this indicator is equal to 1589 m3. For comparison, this indicator is 8000 m3 in Kyrgyzstan, 7100 m3 in Tajikistan, 5500 m3 in Kazakhstan and 4200 m3 in Turkmenistan.
However, as a result of global climate change, the area of glaciers in Central Asia has shrunk by approximately 30% over the last 50-60 years. When the temperature increases to 20 C, the glaciers lose 50% of their territory and when it warms to 40C, it may decrease by almost 78%.
According to the international organization’s estimates, by 2050 water resources in the Syrdarya basin are expected to recede by 5% and in the Amudarya basin by 15%. The total water deficit in Uzbekistan until 2015 was more than 3 billion cubic meters, by 2030 it may reach 7 billion cubic meters, and by 2050 it may reach 15 billion.
Although in 2010-2021, the use of water by the population living in the village became equal to that of the city, the general situation remains unstable.
