Aziz Abduhakimov, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Uzbekistan met with Akihiro Tanaka, President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Tokyo.
According to the press service of the Ministry, Akihiro Tanaka expressed interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of tourism, cultural heritage and education.
In particular, the parties agreed to preserve the cultural heritage of the "Great Silk Road" and create its digital archive, digitize exhibits in museums and improve the skills of employees working there, and carry out restoration and conservation of historical objects, and infrastructure in remote mountainous and desert areas. they discussed issues such as the implementation of projects and attracting Japanese experts to work in Uzbekistan.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to collaborate on the restoration and conservation project of historical monuments in Uzbekistan with the support of UNESCO, the improvement of tourist infrastructure in remote areas, and the creation of a memorial complex in the Surkhandarya region in memory of the late Kato Kyudzu, who devoted most of his life to researching the archaeological and cultural heritage.
The head of JICA noted that the selection of Uzbekistan to host the World Tourism Organization General Assembly in 2023 shows the recognition of the effectiveness of the country's reforms in the field of tourism, and wished success in its holding.
