Uztemiryolyolovchi has been considering upgrading the passenger cars fleet and equipping them with a cooling system.
Currently, the National passenger railroad company has:
- 6 high-speed Afrosiyob electric trains, each consisting of 11 cars that are equipped with a complete cooling system;
- 5 high-speed passenger trains ("Sharq", "Nasaf", "Uzbekistan"), consisting of a total of 46 cars fully equipped with a cooling system.
In addition, other domestic and international passenger trains include: - 15 SV-type carriages (fully equipped with cooling systems);
- 38 “Coupe” type wagons (22 are equipped with a cooling system, 16 are equipped with an air exchange (ventilation) system).
- 74 Couchette car (equipped with the ventilation system);
- Restaurant cars (fully equipped with cooling systems) designed to provide food for 13 passengers.
Out of 252 active passenger cars 162 are fully equipped with cooling systems and 90 are equipped with ventilation systems.
“Equipping passenger cars with a cooling system will require a huge investment, and carriages that can't be equipped with a cooling system will be gradually replaced with new ones. Uzbekistan Railways is planning to purchase cars fully equipped with 100 new cooling systems. For that, the Public stock company has had negotiations with leading international companies to equip all passenger cars with modern cooling systems.
Earlier, the National Weather Forecaster (Uzhydromet) had reported on hot air that would enter Uzbekistan from Iran via Turkmenistan on June 25-29. According to Uzhydromet, the temperature in the country will rise to 45 degrees, and this abnormally hot weather will continue until the end of the week.
The experts say that during such hot weather, the temperature in the steel tracks will be higher. Due to this, the management of "Uztemiryolyovchi" imposed restrictions on the speed of trains. This will delay trains to their destinations. In addition, the sharp rise in temperature has affected the train schedule.
