President’s Assistant Saida Mirziyoyeva met with WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
According to Saida Mirziyoyeva, the dialogue focused on the practical steps taken by Uzbekistan towards accession to the organization. The discussion also highlighted Uzbekistan’s progress in aligning its national legislation with WTO norms and regulations, as well as other positive developments.
On September 12, Maika Oshikawa, Head of the World Trade Organization Department, wrote on LinkedIn about the WTO delegation’s visit and its objectives. The delegation discussed with the President’s representative on WTO matters, Aziz Urunov, the review of documents for the upcoming 9th Working Group meeting, including the updated version of E-dWPR, technical work on finalizing the confirmation documents, and the implementation of additional legislative acts.
Earlier, Tanzila Narbaeva discussed Uzbekistan’s WTO membership with the U.S. Ambassador.
It was previously reported that Saida Mirziyoyeva had a meeting with WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as part of the conference on "Economic Reforms in Uzbekistan and the Process of Accession to the World Trade Organization."
On June 5, the conference's high-level assistant, supported by the World Trade Organization, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund, noted that Uzbekistan once again demonstrated confident steps toward WTO accession.
Later, U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai supported Uzbekistan’s aspiration to join the World Trade Organization.
