President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan participated in the anniversary meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Moscow on May 8 as the head of an observer state, joined by leaders from various member states including Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Cuba. The meeting aimed to address current issues regarding the expansion of multilateral trade and economic cooperation, support for industrial projects, and the implementation of joint programs across priority sectors, presidential press service informed.
In his address, President Mirziyoyev extended congratulations to Vladimir Putin on his re-election as President of the Russian Federation and greeted all participants on the 79th anniversary of Victory in World War II and the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union. He emphasized the importance of supporting and stimulating trade and economic relations between countries, promoting cooperation projects, and creating conditions for mutual investments.
President Mirziyoyev highlighted the successful collaboration between Uzbekistan and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in observer status, noting the growth in mutual trade turnover, particularly in industrial products.
He mentioned the establishment of over 1,000 joint ventures and projects, along with the increasing prevalence of payments in national currencies.
The President emphasized the need for expanding practical partnership and active participation in multilateral industry cooperation projects within the framework of the EAEU's strategic directions of development. He proposed the preparation of a new comprehensive plan of joint activities between Uzbekistan and the Eurasian Economic Commission for the medium term to facilitate effective implementation.
The importance of continuing close dialogue on the development of transport corridors, particularly the North-South corridor, was emphasized, along with the fruitful results of recent meetings on the development of multimodal routes. The President also paid special attention to supporting industrial cooperation projects and localization programs, proposing the development of a separate roadmap for this purpose.
Interest was expressed in utilizing the capabilities of a special mechanism for supporting industrial cooperation programs within the Association, along with expanding cooperation in areas such as agriculture, climate change, migrant worker welfare, and tourism promotion.
