Uzbekistan’s transition to renewable energy reached a new milestone in July 2025, with solar and wind power plants generating a record 1.246bn kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity. This accounts for 17% of the country’s total electricity production for the month—the highest share to date.

According to official data, 11 solar photovoltaic power plants and 4 wind power plants are currently operational across the country, boasting a combined capacity of 4,119 megawatts. In July alone, solar facilities produced 760.9mn kWh, while wind farms generated 485.4mn kWh.
This new monthly record surpasses the previous high set in May 2025, when solar and wind sources produced 1.104bn kWh. July’s figure marks an increase of 142mn kWh compared to May.
The steady rise in green energy output reflects Uzbekistan’s growing commitment to sustainable energy. In 2022, when large-scale renewable projects were just starting, only 434mn kWh were generated from solar plants throughout the entire year. That number rose to 576.9mn kWh in 2023, and reached a total of 4.86bn kWh by the end of 2024.

Beyond breaking records, the environmental benefits are significant. In July alone:
- 377.5mn cubic meters of natural gas were saved;
- 1.12mn tons of harmful emissions were prevented from entering the atmosphere.
When including hydroelectric sources, total electricity generation from renewable energy in July reached 2.089bn kWh, accounting for 27% of national electricity production that month. This broader renewable output helped:
- Save 633mn cubic meters of natural gas;
- Prevent 1.88mn tons of emissions from being released.
For context, this amount of green electricity could meet the seven-month demand of 1.49 million households, or the entire annual demand of 870,000 households.
As of August 2, the cumulative electricity produced by solar and wind power plants in Uzbekistan since the start of 2025 has exceeded 6bn kWh, marking a pivotal step in the country’s energy transformation.
