Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu, met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the United Nations Headquarters to discuss key issues currently shaping the international agenda during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
The meeting highlighted the UN's ongoing activities in Kazakhstan and the broader region, particularly regarding the initiative to establish the UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development in Central Asia and Afghanistan, to be located in Almaty.
Minister Nurtleu reaffirmed Kazakhstan's unwavering commitment to the core principles of the UN Charter and expressed the country's full support for the organization’s mission to promote global peace and prosperity. Secretary-General Guterres acknowledged the strategic and growing cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UN.
Guterres praised Kazakhstan's contributions to global peace, sustainable development, and human rights, stating that Kazakhstan is a “privileged partner, a pillar of multilateralism, and a bridge between the East and West.”
“For us, Kazakhstan is a fundamental pillar of Central Asia, playing a crucial role in fostering dialogue between cultures, religions, and civilizations,” Guterres said.
Guterres also expressed gratitude for Kazakhstan's steadfast support of UN initiatives, particularly the establishment of the UN Regional Centre for Sustainable Development in Almaty, which he visited during the SCO Summit in July 2024.
