Kazakhstan's Business Activity Index (BAI) increased to 51.4 in August from 50.9 in July, as reported by the National Bank of Kazakhstan. This index reflects improvements in business activity based on a monthly survey of enterprises. All sectors experienced an upward trend. The mining sector saw the most significant improvement, with its index advancing to 52.2 from 49.8 in July due to a substantial rise in new orders.
Other sectors also noted gains: the production sector's index rose to 51.8 from 51.7, the service sector increased to 51.1 from 51.0, and the construction sector's index grew to 50.6 from 50.4, according to the National Bank’s press service. Business activity improved in ten regions, while it deteriorated in eight. The Abai Region recorded the highest index value at 58.4, and the Aktobe Region had the lowest at 44.6.
The assessment of current business conditions showed a decline, whereas optimism regarding future business conditions improved. Enterprises reported continued growth in demand for products and services, although the pace of this growth has slightly slowed.
In August, demand increased across all sectors, particularly in mining and construction. However, the service and production sectors experienced a deceleration in the growth rate of demand, with the slowdown in production beginning in June. Concerns were raised regarding business protection issues, while other aspects such as tax burden, infrastructure, and access to finance and loans were evaluated in a mostly neutral manner.
